Road Trips

i am the first to admit it is hard to eat well on the road - very hard. we had a seven hour drive back from western new york. between convenience stores and fast food, there aren't a whole lot of options. here is my attempt at healthy gas station eating. forewarning: i'm not perfect, not by a long shot.

first and foremost, i ALWAYS have water in the car. i try to have 2 containers on a long trip. it's much cheaper than buying bottled water (better for the planet too!)

i started with a naked superfood green machine. these things are great if you can find them. tons of fruits and veggies and other good stuff. check out some of the ingredients: apples, bananas, kiwi, pineapple, mango, broccoli, spinach, barley grass, wheat grass, and ginger. plus, its just like my homemade green monsters - all you taste is the fruit. it's yummy! i also highly recommend odwalla superfood too. you can find that sometimes too.

AC packed us some goodies for the road (thanks AC!). E had an apple and i had a pear. their goodness is self explanatory.

at our second stop i was hungry! i found string cheese in the refrigerated section at the gas station. . .

some nuts that turned out to be waaaay too salty:( no such luck of finding unsalted. . .

i also really needed a pick me up. i was getting restless in the car for so long. so my final gas station choice was starbucks vanilla frappuccino. i figured this was better than soda. still had sugar in it though. i always choose real sugar over aspartame or high fructose corn syrup though. it is the lesser of three evils in my opinion.

finally, i had a peanut butter chocolate chip cookie that AC made and packed. they are so yummy. remember i said i'm not perfect. (it's also possible i snuck some twizzlers) i feel a little better about these cookies though because they have peanut butter, dark chocolate chips, and whole wheat flour in them. plus, can you see the smiley face in it:)
