Bourbon BBQ Sliders

we have had super mild winter weather here in the mid-atlantic. last week it was in the 70's! yesterday, it was sunny and 50 and E and i enjoyed a long walk with the dogs. on days like that, it's hard to be in a bad mood. something about abundant sunshine is good for the soul and warm my insides. the only problem? it makes me long for hamburgers, smoothies, and ice cream. i crave summer-time food when we get a warm spell mid-winter.

last night, the cure for my summer nostalgia was these bourbon BBQ sliders. wowza. that's right, these sliders are wow inducing. these are crazy good, sweet, a little spicy and full of flavor! another selling point for me? it took 20 minutes to make - tops.

i served mine sans bun (over garlic green beans) but they would be great with whole wheat slider rolls. let me tell you, if you like flavor, put these on your list to make this week.

Bourbon BBQ Sliders
makes 6 sliders

1 lb ground bison (or ground beef)
1 tsp worcestershire sauce
1 tsp steak seasoning
1 tsp olive oil
1 tsp butter
1 large onion, chopped
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1 cup mushrooms, chopped
1/4 cup bourbon
1/2 cup favorite BBQ sauce

in a medium bowl, mix together ground bison, worcestershire sauce, and steak seasoning. form into 6 small patties. heat large skillet over medium-high heat. add butter and sear sliders for 1-2 minutes per side. transfer sliders to plate and set aside.

add olive oil to skillet and then add onions. add salt and pepper and saute for 3-4 minutes. reduce heat to medium and add mushrooms and cook until tender. pour in bourbon and let reduce by half. pour in BBQ sauce and stir. add sliders back in and let simmer 4 minutes. flip sliders and cook another 4-5 minutes.

serve immediately and spoon extra sauce over sliders.
