Lemon Chiffon Martini

i saw cake vodka in the liquor store the other week and bought the single size bottle because i had this hair-brained idea for a cocktail.

see, the thing is i don't like super-sweet drinks very often. the cake vodka just sounded too sweet but i immediately though of lemon chiffon cupcakes. i knew the tartness of lemon would cut the sweetness of the vodka so i stared with just the vodka and lemon juice. unfortunately, it was just too tart and the lemon flavor was too strong. i added simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water) a little at a time until the balance was just right.

the result was truly a lemon cake tasting martini. i don't want to mislead you, this is still a sweet drink but i actually loved it. its like a lemon drop with cake flavor.

i suggest you try a mini version like i did. it's a great way to experiment with mew liquor flavors without committing to the whole bottle.
