The Weekly Nightcap - Watermelon Margaritas

yesterday was my sister-in-laws birthday and what better way to ring in the weekend than with one of her favorite drinks - margaritas!

i am giving the classic margarita a summer makeover with juicy, ripe watermelon. The sweetness of the watermelon is balanced out by the lime juice and of course tequila. if you don't have patron orange, just use 1/2 oz more of tequila and 1/2 oz more of the cointreau or triple sec.

this would be the perfect "by the pool" or "at the beach" drink this weekend. of course, it will also facilitate a birthday celebration. whatever your plans are this weekend, make sure to include this tasty treat.

happy birthday K - cheers!

Watermelon Margaritas
makes 2-3 drinks

1 C seedless watermelon, chilled, cubed
1/2 oz lime juice, freshly squeezed
2 oz silver (white) tequila
1 oz patron orange
1/2 oz cointreau or triple sec
1 cup ice cubes

run a slice of watermelon around rims of glasses and dip into green sprinkles. combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth (add more ice cubes if needed to reach desired consistency). pour into glasses and garnish with watermelon and lime wedges, if desired.
